Cala Scottsdale Phoenix – Restaurant Review

We spend a lot of time traveling to Phoenix and one thing we love to do is try out new restaurants we’ve never been to each visit. From scrolling Cala’s Instagram page, I knew this was a place we had to check out and boy were we not disappointed.

Cala offers such a relaxed and fun vibe in their boho chic space. We were sat in the middle of the restaurant which gave us views of the entire space. They have a lot of great table options for large parties and celebrations. One thing I love is that they have these massive glass sliding patio doors that they had open. Now we were there in May and it was even then quite hot, but they had the AC going and the doors open which was so nice!

Our Take on Cala’s Menu

Now I’m not one to order meatballs, I only ever get them because Lucas LOVES them. So when there are meatballs on the menu, in this case meatball .. not plural, we get it. Now this was hands down the BEST meatball I have ever had. It’s called The Giant Sicilian Meatball, as it should be. It’s topped with whole milk mozzarella, parm, toasted pine nuts, roasted garlic and smoked bacon marinara. I would order this again.

Let’s Jump into the Main Courses

Next we ordered the Roasted Cauliflower, they were seasoned with mediterranean spice and had a lemon aioli, they were good, but I have had better roasted cauliflower then these. I think the spices really overpowered the flavour of the cauliflower here.

The two show stoppers were the Paccheri Alla Salsiccia and the Salmon. First lets talk about this pasta. It was unreal, I am still thinking about this dish to this day and would go back just to order this. It had yummy Italian sausage, rapini, creme fraiche and more! 10/10. The salmon was also phenomenal, cooked perfectly, everything was very flavourful, my only complaint is that it only had come with one small baby potato cut in half, which I think if you list that as a side it should come with more than one.

Cala was a great experience, the vibes are great, the decor is stunning and the plants everywhere give it such an earthly coziness.

Also something worth mentioning, the customer service was top notch. We were sitting at our table and they kindly asked if we wouldn’t mind swapping tables directly across from us as they were trying to seat a large group. That kind of stuff doesn’t ruffle our feathers, so we gladly moved. They kindly took off a round of drinks from our bill as a thank you.
